Kubota Strengthens Partnership with ListenField for Planet-Friendly Smart Farming Solutions in Southeast Asia

June 9, 2023 (Bangkok, Thailand) - A global leader in agricultural machinery manufacturing, Kubota recently strengthened its partnership with ListenField, a pioneering startup co-founded by Dr. Rassarin Chinnachodteeranun and Prof. Kiyoshi Honda. Since their collaboration began in 2020, the two companies have been working together to advance sustainability in Thailand through precision agriculture. Mr. Hiroto Kimura, General Manager of Kubota's Research and Development Headquarters visited ListenField's office in Bangkok on June 9, 2023, marking another significant milestone in their collaborative journey.

The main objective of this collaboration is to address the widespread inefficiency in farming operations and unsustainable practices in Southeast Asia. The majority of smallholders in the region have limited access to modern crop management practices and technologies, resulting in the overuse or improper application of fertilizers. Additionally, the lack of access to agricultural machinery forces farmers to heavily rely on manual labor. Overall, these lead to lower productivity and increased operational costs for farmers. These challenges not only undermine farmer livelihoods, but also have significant environmental implications. Of particular concern is the rice cultivation in Thailand, which ranks as the world’s 4th largest CO2 emitter next to China, India and Indonesia [1].

Kubota and ListenField agree to deepen their collaboration by co-developing practical and effective solutions that address farming challenges not just in Thailand but also in other Southeast Asian countries. Farmers will benefit from a more practical and comprehensive solution that addresses their operational needs. Through this collaboration, Kubota and ListenField aim to empower farmers with cutting-edge tools and techniques that enable them to optimize farming operations while minimizing environmental impact.
